Today, your child will be coming home with a letter containing their login for TimesTable Rockstars. This is a really valuable resource where the children practise their specific times tables. If you have any questions, please come and speak to a Year 4 staff member.

Please can all children continue to bring in their own writing equipment including new pencils if needed.

Please remember to do your mymaths and reading diaries with your children.

We have had a great week this week. We are really enjoying our gymnastics module in P.E with Mr Clark where we are perfecting our vaulting!

We are moving on in maths to measurement and calculating the perimeter of a rectilinear shape.  Our Learning Experience has ended today, where we used our beautiful joined writing to present our descriptions of the sea.

Have a great weekend!

We have had another great week!

In maths, we have explored the inverse and how this helps solve tricky missing number calculations.

In writing, we have been asking socratic questions to help us answer our big question. We sent these home for family discussions too!

We were super excited to have our own music workshop this week. We were visited by a band, where we were taught a new song and dance. We then helped these musicians in our assembly and became the experts!

Next week, we will begin to look at similes and personification. We can't wait to add these to our descriptive writing.

We have had a great sport filled week this week as we attended the athletics tournament and came 3rd place. We had a go at lots of different activities themed around jumping and running. Today, we really enjoyed developing our rolling skills in P.E with Mr Clark.

In English, we have been exploring different ways to describe our local sea. We have really challenged ourselves with selecting effective adjectives and adverbs and are able to explain why we made these choices.

In Maths, we have been exploring subtraction and looking at tricky word problems which allows us to use our new skills.

Next week, we have got a music workshop in class on Tuesday. We can't wait to meet some special musicians!

The new mymaths homework has been set tonight. If you have any problems logging on, please let us know. Have a great weekend!

What a great start to our second half of our Autumn Term we have had!

We have started our second learning experience, which is themed around geography. We have looked at continents, oceans, countries and counties. Then, we found where Brixham is on the map and why it is so special. This led us to our big question - Why do the people of Brixham respect the sea?

On Friday, we went on a welly walk around the harbour and breakwater. We had a fantastic time completing a key on our maps and using adjectives to describe the places we visited. We will be using these this week to explore our question further.

In maths, we have been looking at column addition with multiple exchanges. We have been remembering to exchange ones for tens, tens for hundreds and hundreds for thousands.

Reminders
Our P.E will continue to be on a Tuesday and Friday.
Please remember to fill in your child's reading diary.

Thank you!

14.10.19 - 18.10.19

This week, we have used neat joined handwriting to present our non-chronological report which answers our big question.  We have started looking at column addition and adding 2 four digit numbers without using an exchange.
On Friday in PE, we have been practised our ball skills of throwing and catching. We really have a great time with Mr Clark and have shown such a great range of skills.

REMINDER: My maths is now up and running and your child should have their passwords to log on. Also, please remember to fill in your reading diary over the holidays.
7.10.2019 - 11.10.19

In PE, on Tuesday, we took part in team games.  For English this week, we have been writing and editing our sentences for our reports.  In Maths, we have been pattern finding and counting in 25's.
On Thursday, 10 of us attended a Tag Rugby Tournament at Paignton Community College.  We played a round robin against 9 other schools.  It was linked to the Rugby World Cup that is taking place in Japan.  We had to demonstrate the TREDS code that the England team have to show:
T - teamwork
R - respect
E - enjoyment
D - discipline
S - sportmanship
We all had a great day and definitely showed all the above skills.
Welcome to Class 4

Class 4 have had an excellent start to the term. We have really enjoyed exploring our first learning experience of rocks. Our question is What is the Earth's crust made up of? We have conducted scientific investigations on different types of rocks and researched how they are made.

This week we have enjoyed using our new interactive screen in maths where we have looked at rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. In writing, we have started our draft of our scientific report which answers our question. In P.E, we have been looking at team games and skills needed to play different sports. Children have brought their spellings home this weekend so that they can practise these with you. They have also got their reading diaries. Please sign this so we can see how many brilliant books they have been reading at home.
